I am thankful for a change of attitude. Today started of on the wrong side of the bed for our entire house. The kids were fighting Rob and I were in rotten moods, it was not a pleasant place to be. We were planning to take the kids to the Science Centre for a family day but decided at the last moment to cancel and stay home after the boys started hitting each other. When we canceled I was sure that we were doomed to a horrible day home with cranky children and for about the first hour they didn’t disappoint. Then something happened. I am not sure what, but they calmed and started playing happily together. They even let we get some laundry done. I was so thankful for the turn around in attitudes. What started out as a horrible day turned into a nice family day playing with toys and watching a movie.

I am thankful for the chance to witness the kindness of others. While at the grocery store cash waiting my turn there were two gentle men ahead of me. The second in line was an elderly man. While waiting his turn he was checking over his items and looking at his money in a little container counting it and getting ready to pay. While distracted the first gentle man had the cashier ring the elderly mans order through and paid for it and left bidding them both a merry Christmas. The elderly gentle man a moment later turned to the cashier asking what his total was and she announced “nothing” the man stared at her confused and tried to explain to her that he hadn’t paid yet. She turned and glanced over her shoulder at the man who was now walking out of the store and said “It’s all taken care of, the other gentle man paid for it”. He stared at her for a moment confused and then looked down at the money in his hand as huge smile came across his face. He looked like a child being handed a candy bar. I am thankful to be blessed with the opportunity to witness a selfless act of kindness and to be reminded that just because we may not be there to see it does not me that our good deeds aren’t appreciated. Thank you to those that care for even strangers.

I am thankful for “chosen” family. Rob and I decided to go to our “chosen” sisters church for Christmas Eve service, she is one of the ministers there and we decided to show up with out her knowing and surprise her. It was all orchestrated by us and her parents and one of her other “chosen” family members. Just after the service began the kids were all called to the front of the church, she hadn’t yet seen us so I walked the three kids to be at the front. As we reached the front she finally noticed us and was almost brought to tears. I was so happy to see how surprised she was. I am thankful for my chosen family. I love you chosen sister and chosen parents. Thank you for being in our lives.

I am thankful for god parking spots. As if Christmas isn’t enough work today Aly broke out in a rash. So I had to add taking her to the doctors to the already long list of things I had to do.
The doctor told me it is an allergic reaction. So off we went to the drug store for some antihistamines. The place was packed. Aly was asleep in her seat and I was sure I would have to park a mile away. Just as I was coming into the parking lot a car pulled out and gave me a spot right near the doors. I am so thankful for a good parking spot today when i reallymore than most days.

I am thankful for the beautiful weather. I would love if we had a little snow for Christmas but it can’t always be. I am however thankful that we don’t have to much snow or more so ice like we did last year.
I had almost forgotten the ice storm and the insanity that it caused. Over 100,000 people left with out power, some were with out power for a week. Many spent Christmas without power or recovering from the power outage. It was a hard time for a lot of people. However I am also thankful for the out poor of support that came out of it. Many people shared with friends, family, neighbors and even strangers to help keep everyone warm and safe. In a time of year meant as a chance to show others you care people got the chance to really go that extra step and do exactly that.
I thankful we are all a little safer and more comfortable this year and I am thankful for those that helped others last year. I am very thankful for those that are helping others this year and showing they care even without a crisis to push them. To them thank you.

I am thankful for simple joys like Rice Krispie Squares. Sometimes something as simple as a Rice Krispie Square can put a huge smile on your face.

I am thankful for generous kids. We took the kids shopping so they could get gifts for others. They were so happy to get to choose something for others. They were so happy to look over the store and try to find that perfect gift. There choices were often odd but there hearts were in the right place. I love watching them shop for others.
