Genetics and GI.

Yesterday I was contacted by Sick Kids to book an appointment with the genetics department for Nate. We have been on the wait list for near a year now. It turns out that they had a cancellation so we will be going in next Monday. We will be looking into the possible cause of Nate’s HD.

Then today I booked an appointment with Nate’s GI doctor to discuss the possibilities of Nate’s continued problems being food related. So we will be going to see her in two weeks.

It is just amazing how things can go from calm to crazy. But I am glad to see progress. I just can’t shake the feeling that there is still something wrong with Nate and maybe this is the start of the journey to answers.

The H2O chronicles.

This past Thursday I was in the kitchen cleaning up from breakfast when I looked out the window to discover city work trucks setting up outside my house. The neighbors have had a leaking pipe for the last 2 weeks so I just assumed the workers were here to fix that and thought nothing more of it. A little while later the boys and I went out for the morning. Well….when we returned home we found out that the shut off for the neighbors leaking pipe is in our drive way and the men had our whole drive way blocked off and were digging up part of it. They dug about a 4’x3′ hole that was about 6 feet deep so they could disconnect a pipe.

Setup.

What we arrived home to.

So after a hard days work they back filled the hole and went home. A short time later I discovered that I had no water and no workers. So I call the after hours number and they sent someone out to try and fix the problem. After a little while the new worker discovered that the wrong line had been disconnected. So the workers would have to return the next day to fix the problem. So I was left for a night with no running water at supper time and two toddlers. (Not fun.)

The next day (Friday) the men returned and dug up the hole again and reconnected the pipe and once again. Then they dug another hole to disconnect the right pipe. So we ended up with 2 big holes in our driveway.

Attempt number2.

After reconnecting the pipe I turned on the water to discover…

Where's the water?

We had only a trickle of water and after a few moments of it running it sputtered and stopped and once again we had no water. So I let the work men know and they were a little bit confused. So they had to have a plumber come out to check out or water meter. It turns out dirt got in to the open line and had clogged the meter. The plumber had to replace the meter.

Yeah!

And after approximately 30 hours we once again had water. Yeah! Until we lived a day with out running water I never realized how much I use it or how much we take it for granted. I am so glad it is running again.

Communication problems.

I am confused. Nate has speech delays. The other week Nate and I went to see the speech pathologist. I asked her if the delay could be apraxia of speech. She said it was possible but in order to get a diagnosis we would have to get it from a medical doctor like our pediatrician. So today we went to see our pediatrician. He said that he wouldn’t be the one to make a diagnosis of speech delays but that he would refer us to a speech pathologist for that.

So now I am confused.

I don’t know exactly what to do next. The pediatrician gave me a phone number for another speech pathologist (who happens to be his wife). The problem is she is private care which means paying for visits and I am not sure how much that will cost but I am sure it won’t be cheap. So I will also have to look into whether insurance will cover any of it.

I also have a few other contacts to look into to find out about other possible steps to take. But in the meantime……

I am just feeling lost and confused. I am starting to wonder if I am making more out of this than there is or if I am seeing something that just isn’t there. I hate doubting myself. I doubted myself when Nate was sick and no one was seeing it and then they found out he has Hirschsprungs and removed 2/3 of his large intestine not to mention a mountain of problems. So I know I shouldn’t doubt myself now. No one knows the boys like I do.  I have to keep remembering that it is my job to spot problems and there job to diagnose them. I guess it means I have a journey ahead of me to find the answers as to why my 28 month old isn’t speaking. I just need strength for the battles ahead. In the end it will all work out, I just have to do what I can to make it work out the best way possible.

Nate age 28 months.

I made my beginnings at the end.

I can’t explain why but all of my “Beginnings” blogs have been writen at the end of the day. I have tried a few times to blog early in the day but I just find that I can’t settle in to write on till late at night. So it would appear that all my beginnings are in the end. I find in the evening that blogging gives my mind a chance to unwind and to filter through the things happening in my life. I don’t always write about them but it gives me a chance to think them through. My blogs are often not very interesting to strangers I am sure what they are deffinately a great sorce of stress release for me. Over the last few months I have really come to love blogging even if just for myself. To those that do read these, thank you and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Baby Cake.

Today I went for an ultrasound. Unfortunately Rob was unable to go and find out with me what the gender of the baby was. So we invited his parents over supper. To make announcing the gender of the baby special I had gone to the bakery and order a cake with the gender written on it.

Baby Cake.

The doctor is 70% sure.

My Toothless Wonder.

I just discovered today that Nathanial my Toothless Wonder is no longer toothless (age 22 months). He went in to the hospital on July 26, 2010 with 3 teeth the two front bottom ones and his top left eye tooth. He came home with six teeth. He now has his four top front teeth and his two bottom front teeth. With all of those chompers and his new hair cut he doesn’t look like my baby boy he is suddenly looking a lot more grown up. In the blink of an eye they go from being babies to children.  🙁 It makes me a little sad. On the plus side soon he won’t need me to cut his food into tiny pieces so he can eat it. 🙂

Blogging mad.

So my wonderful husband pointed out that he has his own website and that if I wanted I could have my very own page. So here it is lovingly created for me. So now I can blog about what ever I want. Not that my life is that exciting but hey sometimes I actually have something to say that others might want to read. So from now on I will be blogging about my life on here. Oh and just a warning most of it will likely be about my kids and how they are driving me nuts today but hey they’re what matter most to me.

P.S. Thank you Rob. I love you.

To many bad movies.

Tonight we are watching  a few movies while waiting to see in the new year. The first movie was called Hanna. It was okay. The direction was good and the story was okay. The second movie which we’re still watching is called Witch Craft 13. Wow. It is one of the worst movies I think I’ve ever seen. The acting is absolutely horrible. The story sucks.  I sit here writing this and wondering why I keep watching it. Oh well. At least all of 2012’s movies will be better. I mean they couldn’t be any worse. Or could they? Only time will tell.
