It's just how it is.

Proud Mommy.

So almost 2 weeks ago I started toilet training Aly and switched her to under ware when she is awake. Well she is doing AMAZING! Thursday she had no accidents and Friday, Saturday and Sunday (today) she has only had 1 accident a day and only pee.

Then today I decided it was time to move her to a big girl bed (ok a toddler bed). So at bed time she was so excited that she climbed up on her new bed and laid down so I tucked her in, said good night and left the room. All was good… for a few minutes. I could hear her playing in the bed and exploring it but she didn’t climb out. Then after about 5-10 minutes she started crying a bit so I went in and gave her a hug to calm her and let her know she was okay. She wanted me to pick her up but I laid her down and left again. After a minute she started to cry again so I gave it a few minutes and then once again went in to calm her and again she wanted me to pick her up. I tucked her back in and left. This time she was mad and started screaming. I gave her a few minutes longer and then went back in. This time when she wanted up I picked her up and rocked her. That’s when I realized. Our nightly routine has always been to cuddle and rock her for a minute before I tuck her in to bed. But tonight I didn’t do that. She climbed in herself. All the poor girl wanted was routine and Mommy was denying her of it. So I cuddled her and put her back in her big girl bed and left the room. Then I waited…. but there was only silence. With just a cuddle she went right off to sleep.

I love my big girl…. and my boys, can’t forget them. 🙂

I am a Proud Mama.

So as my last post said I started a little over a week ago trying to toilet train Aly. I am so proud to say that after only 8 days of training Aly had a full day with no accidents (not including when she was sleeping). Then today she only had one accident and I am pretty sure it was my fault because I was trying to make dinner and she couldn’t get my attention or her bottoms off. In the 9 days so far she has averaged only 2-3 accidents a day. I love how well she is doing and how hard she is trying.

Day 2 and 3

Day 2:
Ok so yesterday started out great then just before lunch we had friends come over to play and apparently that was a big distraction and Aly had 2 accidents between 11am and 12:30. The afternoon went well but then in the evening we again had visitors and again she had 2 accidents between 6:30 and 8:30pm.

Day 3:
Today on the other hand was a really bad day with 6 pee accidents and 2 poop. I don’t know what was going on for some of them. 1 happened because I was in the boys bathroom and didn’t have a potty seat there and she came in and wanted to use the toilet but by the time I got a seat and got it ready for her it was to late. Another was after she got hurt and she was screaming and peed. and a third was when we came in after school all bundled and I couldn’t get eeverything off fast enough to get her to the toilet. The others I am not sure though. On the upside she did at one point drop a toy she was playing with and run for the potty she sat just in time to get the pee in the toilet.

Day 1.

Aly’s toilet training adventure: Day 1.

I have decided to journal toilet training Aly. I won’t write every day but I will the first few days as a way to track how she is doing and to vent if I need to. I guess this wasn’t really day 1 for her that was really back about 11 months ago when I started introducing her to the toilette. It was nothing big I would just let her sit on it so that she wouldn’t be afraid of it later. I also started a few weeks back sitting her on the toilet when ever she wakes up and at bed tie to encourage her to pee in the toilet. However today was the day when we switched to underwear and stopped using diapers (except when she is sleeping).

So today we made the switch and she did great. She used the toilet 4 times and she had 2 accidents but both were very small. I am so excited by how well she is doing. Yeah Aly!

A Beautiful First.

Today I was sitting on my bathroom floor (which I do more often then one might expect) waiting for Aly to finish on the toilet (she likes to try and be a big girl) when something happened (no this isn’t a poop story). Aly laughed and smiled down at me and for the first time ever in any of my kids I saw that piece of me. Don’t get me wrong I’ve looked at the boys and seen that Nate’s nose looks more like mine then daddy’s and that Cam has my hair color, but I have never seen that glint of me staring back. I guess maybe it was a sappy mommy moment… but… it was special. It was nothing specific I guess just the color of her eyes and the way she smiled but it felt more like a memory then the present. It was just a very beautiful first that brought a tear to my eye. I just have to laugh at how much of my mommy life revolves around the bathroom.

Enjoying the Silver Lining.

So on Wednesday the boys were of school sick. That evening I received a phone call to inform me that the Teachers would be out for a protest and so all school was canceled for the day. For me this was no big deal. So the boys and I made plans with Auntie Chantelle and their cousins and a friend, Jen and her 2 kids.

Then this morning I was greeted by a text on my asking if we wanted to make new plans seeing as the boys were going to school.

What? What is she talking about? There’s no school. I quickly jumped on-line and went to the Durham District School Boards website to find this:

IMPORTANT: All DDSB Elementary Schools Open for regular classes and buses running January 11, 2013
January 11, 2013 @ 5:45 am
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

All Durham District School Board Schools will be open for regular classes today, Friday January 11, 2013. School buses will be running.

The Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled earlier this morning that the public elementary teachers’ protest is unlawful and ETFO has cancelled its planned one-day protest.

We thank families for their continued patience.

So at 8am with only 30 minutes to dress eat and get out of the house we all started rushing around trying to get ready. I wondered more then a few times if this was the best decision. I mean we could just stop and spend the day home regardless or we could slow down and just be late, but if your going to do something do it. So we rushed around and got ready and made it to school just as the bell rang. The boys weren’t happy to be going to school but they were good about it.

We got to class to discover that in Cameron’s class he was the second student to arrive. Nate’s class was worse. Nate was the ONLY student in class. I waited for a few minutes and talked to the teacher about how things were (this was a rare chance to talk to her with out 30 other “things” distracting her.  🙂 I left about 25 minutes in to the school day and still no one else had arrived. I left wondering how the day would be but decided that they would make the best of it.

About 6 hours later I returned to collect the boys from school and was surprised at what I found. I was greated by two of the happiest kids. They LOVED the small class size. Through out the day Cam’s class grew to a total of 4 kids and Nate’s class stayed just him until lunch time and then he was joined by 2 others for a total of 3 kids. The entire walk home was non-stop talk about all of the great things they got to do because there was only a few kids.

It is almost sad to think that Monday their classes will return to the normal 30 kids per class.

Christmas Craziness.

Okay so as we all know the holidays are hectic and 3 kids seems to make it extra crazy to me. I don’t know how people with more survive. Any way thanks to the craziness I haven’t posted much lately even though a lot has been going on so I thought I would post some pictures of our Christmas (and other December events).

Party Girls.

Today Aly went to her Monday play group for an end of year/Christmas party. She went with her cousin and two friends. She LOVES the play group and has so much fun exploring and playing with other kids.
