I am thankful for a weekend home. It has been a really long time since we had a weekend home as a family. With birthday parties, summer fairs, holidays and all the other things that come up in life we have been on the go every weekend since June. It becomes VERY tiring. This weekend however we thankfully had no plans and spent the whole weekend home. It was so nice and so needed. They say home is where the heart is and my heart was glad to be home.

I am so thankful for my husband. It may seem obvious to be thankful for him but it is also that I am thankful for the little things. Today I woke up with a really bad headache. Every time I tried to get things done around the house the pain just seemed worse. My wonderful husband realized that I wasn’t coping well and gave the kids a movie day so that I could just relax and let them be. He also let me have a nap to help ease the pain. It may seem like a little thing but with out it I am not sure how I could have made it through the day. I am so thankful for all of his help and love today.

I am thankful for a moments peace. I am lying in bed right now and it is a few minutes to midnight and I should be sleeping…but I am obviously not. Instead I am lying hear listening to the sounds of my house at night. If I listen careful I hear Aly tossing and turning in her bed (yes even asleep she is on the go), I hear the dog moving to her dream, I hear Rob snoring (that I would be okay with out), and I hear cars and the odd train pass by outside. In these moments everything is right. It doesn’t matter that the dishes might not be finished or the million loads of laundry that are waiting for me. Right now every one is safe and happy and healthy. This is my moment to enjoy all that has happened and to leave for tomorrow all that will happen.I can just breath and be thankful for my piece of peace.

I am thankful to share in the smiles that the wonders of science bring. Bright, colorful, fun exploring and learning.

This evening I looked out to see a beautiful pink sky on a warm fall night and a beautiful sunset. I pointed it out to Rob and he suggested enjoying the view from the porch while we enjoyed a little treat. I am thankful for these beautiful moments with family. A wonderful moment sitting relaxing with the ones I love.
P.S. The view was a lot better looking then the cheap camera on my phone makes it look but you get the idea. 😉

I am thankful to have such a great education available for my kids.
Thank You!
Recently I have been thinking a lot about all of the things tat happen in our lives daily that we are thankful for. Many of these things are easily seen, our health, family, friends… But everyday there are hundreds of things to be thankful for. Some are big yes but many in fact I dare say most are small and often over looked but still very important. Here in Ontario today is Thanksgiving. I have to decide to challenge myself. I am challenging myself to see the good, to see the things that I am and should be thankful for. I am trying to live a year of thankfulness. I will post (or try) daily at least one thing that I am thankful for (and I will try to not repeat myself). I would like to challenge others to join me. Share with others if you would like or just write it down in notebook for yourself. The idea isn’t so much to share it with the world but to see what the world gives to us all. So I will start here with my first day. I am thankful for what wasn’t. A little back story, on Saturday the kids were playing with sticks and pretending to sword fight and swinging them around when Nate was hit in the eye by Aly . He started bleeding from the eye so Rob rushed him off to the hospital (I am also thankful we have the medical care available). It turns out that the stick only scratched the white of the eye and didn’t puncture it or get the cornea so there is no damage to his eye site and no permanent damage to his eye. He was given antibiotic drops to help prevent infection and 48 hours later there is no sign of infection. So as I said I am thankful for what wasn’t, he wasn’t blinded, he wasn’t in need of eye surgery and he wasn’t unfortunate enough to get an infection. Some times we can be just as thankful for what isn’t as what is.
Please consider challenging yourself to live thankful for a year. Happy Thanksgiving!
Milkshake or Smoothie?
Recently I started making breakfast drinks for lack of a better name. I wasn’t sure if they were smoothies or milkshakes. So far all of the ones I have tried are made up of a mix of fruit (fresh or frozen), milk or OJ and yogurt (usually Greek). Some of them also have some other things in it for added flavor such as cinnamon and honey.
Long story short it would appear that the general feeling is that if it contains more dairy than fruit or if it contains ice cream then it is a milkshake. Where as if it contains no ice cream and more fruit/vegetables then dairy if any dairy then it is a smoothie. So this means the what I have been making is in fact smoothies but that isn’t wants important. What’s important is finding quick and tasty breakfast options that are also healthy.
As I try some new recipes I will share them here in the hopes that others might enjoy them.
5 things 15 minutes on Rollerblades taught me.
So recently I been missing being more active like I was before I had kids. I have been missing do things like bike riding and rollerblading. Tonight I had an errand to run just a few blocks from home and I was going kid free so I decide I would Rollerblade there. So here are a few things I realized by being on rollerblades for the first time in over 4 years and maybe the third time in 8+ years.
1. After 3 kids and these type of activities fading out of my life my balance is no where near as bad as I thought it would be. (I didn’t fall, yeah me!)
2. I. Am. A. Speed demon. I told myself I would take it slow but by the time I hit the end of my street I was pushing to see how fast I could go.
3. My calves are bigger then they were a decade ago when I bought my rollerblades.
4. 15 minutes on rollerblades now feels like an hour.
5. The hill up my street and driveway seems steeper then I remember it.
It was such a great and fun work out but I have a feeling I am going to feel it tomorrow.
Playing tourist for a day.
Today Nate had an appointment at Sick Kids with his surgeon. The doctor and nurse were both were so happy, they said Nate is doing great. We will be making a little adjustments to his meds (hopefully weening him off of one). They also said that we don’t need to go back for a year. ONE. WHOLE. YEAR! I a so excited. He is growing well and doing so well and they think that he is doing so well that he doesn’t need to come back for a year.
Auntie Rebekah, Cam and Aly came with us to Nate’s appointment. After it was done we all went an adventure in downtown T.O.. We took a walk to Union Station then across the Skywalk to the C.N. Tower and then had a little treat at Starbucks. Then some Thia for supper and finally finishing it all of with a movie. What a wonderful day.
I can’t believe how far Nate has come and how big they are all getting.
